
Dimitri Smith is an LA-based composer and pianist whose scores can be heard everywhere from Netflix to virtual reality headsets. He recently co-scored Long Bright River (Sony) with James Poyser of The Roots, which stars Amanda Seyfried and premieres on Peacock in 2025. In 2023, he co-scored the Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award Nominated series The Diplomat (Netflix) with Nathan Barr, starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell, which went on to be one of the most watched shows of the year. Dimitri's work often blends his classical roots with a style that is fiercely modern, imaginative, and collaborative.
Dimitri has also written additional music for some of the most exciting streaming projects in recent years, including Carnival Row (Amazon), The Great (Hulu), Kate (Netflix), Halston (Netflix),Hollywood (Netflix), which earned an Emmy nomination for its jazz score, and many others. Dimitri also co-arranged the Main Title for Hollywood, and was honored by the Television Academy for his contribution when Nathan Barr won the Emmy for “Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music” in 2020.
In the world of feature films, Dimitri scored The Mystery of Her, which reached the Netflix Top 10 globally and in 10 different countries. He also scored the animated feature film Unicorn Boy, which stars Patton Oswalt and premiered at the 2023 Slamdance Festival. He provided additional music to the 2024 Stephen King Salem’s Lot adaptation (Warner Bros.), as well as to the 2022 theatrical horror film Prey for the Devil (Lionsgate).
Originally from rural Washington state, Dimitri moved to Los Angeles in 2009 to attend Pepperdine University, where he earned a double major in Composition and Opera Performance. After briefly working in orchestration, he began working closely with mentor, Emmy-winning composer Nathan Barr. He now lives by the beach with his wife Molly and their dogs Dobby and Hedwig.
